Cellulite or Cellulitis

here are many a myth, strange thoughts and believes about how cellulite is formed and what you can do to fight and remove it. I really wish I could say that our gel alone will do the trick, but there are other factors to consider and sort out as well. But on this page you will get the holistic picture and all the help you need to get back that smooth figure.
Cellulite Myths and Cellulite Truths

fat and cellulite is the same -  cellulite is not fat

only fat people have it -  slender and thin people suffer equally

going on diet will sort it out -  losing weight alone will not sort it out

only women get it -  women get it more, but men suffer as well

it is caused by being inactive -  very active people also suffer from it

it is found all over the body -  fat is found all over the body

you only get one type -  you get the hard and soft type

you can not do anything about it -  you can effectively get rid of it

no massage cream works -  there are products that do work

How is cellulite formed ?
Cellulite is formed when the exchange of waste materials fail and the skin becomes clogged with toxins and can also be described as an abnormality in the hydration of the hypodermis and in the treatment thereof we need to return the connective tissue to normal elasticity.

Cellulite appears from around the age of 14, but can happen at any age, and although cellulite is not hereditary, you might be more prone to cellulite because of acquired bad habits from your parents.

Cellulite sometimes happens after pregnancy, (or being on birth control pills) when the system is flooded with estrogen, or after a traumatic experience, since it interferes with blood circulation, or it can be simple toxin buildup – as listed above.

Normal fatty tissue is held in place by a network of fibers, and when the system works well, all the waste products are removed from the system – resulting in smooth body curves.

When the waste removal system start to fail, waste products start building up, and the connective tissue becomes saturated with liquid, which then thickens and hardens – forming hard pockets that puff up to produce the "orange peel" or "cottage cheese" effect.

Loosening the trapped waste materials and excess lipids (fat cells) from the affected areas will result in smooth contours again.

In the dermis and hypodermis, adipocytes (fat cells) store the triglycerids (fatty contents) absorbed through meals. Adipocytes are spread all over all over the body and accumulate in certain areas. These adipocytes release triglycerids in the form of fatty acids and glycerol and the connective tissue and skin is irrigated through the capillary network in order to bring the indispensable components to the tissue and to regulate the temperature.

When adipocytes increase in size and number, coupled together with waste materials and excess fluid, they create cellulite.

When this happens these bulges start to press on blood vessels, capillaries and the lymphatic system, reducing the exchanges in the connective tissues, making the situation even worse.

With less exchange they start to contain higher amounts of triglycerids, thereby enlarging the size of the problem. This increases poor circulation and accumulation of liquids due to reduced lymphatic drainage. Waste, toxins and liquids accumulate. The connective tissue becomes sluggish, often inflamed and swollen. Growing adipocytes destroys the network made by elastin and collagen fibers. They press on nerve endings - making these areas painful under pressure or during exercise.

To try and fight this problem, the tissue will form a new fibrous network - giving the skin its dimple and orange peel texture.

Where do you find cellulite on the body ?
It can be found in a large area but in women it is normally found on the inner, upper and back of thighs; upper back below the shoulders; ankles; inside and back of upper arms; buttocks; lower back; hips; & stomach. Men on the other hand normally get it on the stomach and neck area.

What does cellulite look like ?
When you press your skin together and it gives a dimple or ridging contour, then you have it. When it is normal fat - it will give a smooth contour.

What are the different types of cellulite you get ?
You get hard and soft cellulite - hard (also called solid) cellulite can sometimes be difficult to identify right away, as it sticks to the muscle structure, and does not lift away very easily. This type is very common on active people, such as dancers.

Soft cellulite is not as concentrated as hard cellulite but occupies large areas, is looser and much more noticeable as it hangs and sags, normally results in poor muscle tone, and the skin dilates easily.

What can I do to get rid of cellulite?
There are several things that must be done to remove it effectively.

Although we sell a cellulite massage gel, using that alone, without attending to the other factors as well, will simply mean that you will be struck with your cottage cheese thighs and dimpled body.

Other contributing factors
The above links will describe in more detail how the specific problems can cause a problem, but problems like constipation and digestion disorders, as well as estrogen secreted just before each menstrual cycle can also contribute to this problem.

Items to avoid is alcohol, coffee and tea; spices; smoking; crash diets; fat and cream; fried and oily food; over the counter medication such as diet, pep or sleeping pills as well as diuretic pills.

Diet

You will need to follow a purifying diet and at the same time avoid foods that can cause toxic buildup.

1
Avoid processed and refined foods – rather opt for fresh, wholesome & natural foods instead of canned or convenience foods.
2
Limit salt intake – salt tends to retain fluid and also limit coffee intake – rather use herbal teas. To have a look at great herbal teas, please look at our great peppermint tea, fennel & anise tea as well as chamomile tea.
3
Avoid all processed meats (including smoked meats and fish), pork, crisps, chips, salted nuts, chocolate, sweets and pastries, carbonated drinks, dips, gravies and the like.
4
Limit starch (like bread etc) intake – especially if you are overweight or tend to pick up weight easily.
5
Eat fresh fruit and vegetables every day at each meal, with fish and meat only once a day.
6
Choose food for its nutritional value, not the taste alone.
7
Eat slowly and chew your food well and stick to regular meal times and do not snack in between.
8
Give your liver a break with a blandish diet that is easy to digest - even for a short period of time - just to get your body functioning correctly again.
9
Do not drink liquids at mealtime but ensure adequate water intake during the day.
10
Buy the leanest meat and never eat fat or skin of poultry.
11
Avoid sauces and gravies.
12
Broil or roast meats if possible.
13
Broil or bake fish.
14
Eggs should only be boiled or poached – never fried.
15
Eat as much fresh salad as possible, limit, or rather cut, out commercial salad dressings. Rather use a bit of oil, mixed with vinegar or lemon juice as dressing.
16
Cook vegetables for short periods only, or steam them.
17
Eat fresh fruit as much as possible and stay away from canned fruit, which was tinned in heavy syrup.
18
Buy and eat only low fat cheeses and yogurt without any preservatives.

Remember – you are busy with a "cleansing" diet – the whole idea is to eliminate toxins from your body.

So – plenty of liquids to help flush the system, and also ensure that you have regular bowel movements.  To help keep your bowel movements regular, without using a laxatives, have a look at our Herbazings Capsules - this natural herbal supplement will keep you regular - naturally.

To help the process along we suggest that you think of adding dried brewer’s yeast and apple cider vinegar to your diet – it is not great tasting but helps a lot. (Try and take the brewer’s yeast in some vegetable juice – one to two teaspoons in a glass of juice at least twenty minutes before a meal). If you cannot stomach the taste of apple cider vinegar, then try it in capsule form from anyvitamins.com - look by clicking here.

Breathing

Proper deep breathing facilitate oxygenation of the blood and purification of the body.

Exercise

Doing exercise stimulates circulation and speeds up the metabolism, and improves muscle tone and firming of tissue.

Proper elimination of waste

The skin, (the largest organ) kidneys and intestines must EFFECTIVELY get rid of toxins. Kidneys can be aided by increasing fluid intake and thereby increasing volume of urine, while proper working intestines will prevent constipation. The skin should be boosted by sweating and perspiration to assist in elimination of wastes.

Relaxation

In order to get the entire body working correctly, stress must be reduced – body as well as  mind must be in sync.

Massage

With massaging, the cellulite areas are targeted to stimulate circulation, specially for areas not very well worked with exercise, such as the inside of the knee and upper thigh.

It is a further boon if the massage is done with a product such as our Contouring Body Gel , which contain active ingredients to assist in getting rid of the cellulite. Although the active ingredients will assist with the fight against cellulite, because of the exclusive mix of ingredients, it is mild enough, because of the herbal nature, not to cause any discomfort.

Purification is the keyword in fighting cellulite – not weight-loss.

Keep your liver in mind – this is the poor overworked organ that also needs a break to rejuvenate.

To help the process along we suggest that you think of adding dried brewer’s yeast to your diet – it is not great tasting but helps a lot. (Try and take the brewer’s yeast in some vegetable juice – one to two teaspoons in a glass of juice at least twenty minutes before a meal)

Food can be divided as follows:

Proteins

Dietary proteins are the basic building block of all living tissue, and are made up of nitrogen, carbon, hydrogen and oxygen and are broken down to amino acids during digestion. Proteins are needed for the building and repairing of tissues.

22 of the amino acids are needed for life and while some of them can be synthesized by the body, 8 of them, called essential amino acids, must be supplied in adequate quantities through our diet.

We talk about a complete protein, if all 8 essential amino acids are present.

Most complete proteins are derived from animal sources, such as milk, (fresh or powdered) yogurt, cheese, meat, fowl, fish. For vegetarians, it is important to note that complete proteins are present in Soya beans, dried brewers yeast, certain nuts and wheat germ.

Incomplete proteins lack certain essential amino acids and are found in products such as dried beans, flour, cereal, lentils etc.

Carbohydrates

Dietary carbohydrates (as well as fats) are the sources of energy needed to keep us going. They are mainly derived from plant foods and are broken down during digestion into simple sugars – glucose, fructose and lactose.

High quality starches and sugars are found in brown rice, fresh fruits, dried fruit, vegetables, whole grain bread, honey, un-sulfured molasses, etc., and supply quick energy to the body.

Avoid empty calories such as candy, chips (crisps), soft drinks, pastries, etc., as they can be stored as unwanted fat.

Fats

Dietary fats are concentrated energy substances, and produce a lot of energy when oxidized. In order for fat-soluble vitamins, such as Vitamins A, D, E & K, to be absorbed properly, fat has to be present in the diet.

During digestion fat is broken down into glycerin (glycerol) as well as fatty acids. Although the body can manufacture most fatty acids even when no fat is ingested, there are 3 fatty acids, called essential fatty acids, which need to be taken in the diet to ensure optimum health. These are: linoleic acid, linolenic acid and arachidonic acid.

The best sources for these essential fatty acids are pure vegetable oils such as safflower, soybean, sunflower, corn, cottonseed and wheat germ. Margarine and butter supply very little essential fatty acids, although butter contains a good amount of Vitamin A.
